Rahul Gandhi asks PM Modi to apologise to students over protest crackdown

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the handling of protests by students demanding examination reforms, alleging that the government had failed to address concerns over the country's education and testing system.

Speaking to reporters during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Gandhi said the Prime Minister had "not even apologised" for the events that unfolded during Monday's protests.

"Modi ji has not even apologised for what happened yesterday. The youth are protesting against the education and testing system. The whole country knows that the education and testing system is hollowed out by termites. Why is the Prime Minister silent? He should apologise to the students and stop this nonsense of thrashing students," Gandhi said.

He further alleged that young people in the country were being denied opportunities.

"This is no way to treat the young people of this country. They do not have any opportunity in India," Gandhi said.

In a post on X, Gandhi said, "An attack on students is an attack on every Indian family," and alleged that the prime minister believed he could "get away without answers, without consequences."

"I ask every patriotic Indian who believes our students deserve justice - join us in dharna in front of the Prime Minister's residence," Gandhi said, adding that "the voice of India's students will not be ignored."
