Addressing the national council meet of Mahila Congress, he said the real progress of the country was possible when the empowerment of women would take place.
Gandhi wanted the Mahila Congress to reach out to women in all sections of the country to understand and address their problems and become the voice against atrocities on women.
The Congress leader also stressed the need for building up a strong organisation by the Mahila Congress for promoting the cause of empowerment of women.
The two-day national council meet began on Tuesday to discuss the challenges before the party and ensuring proper representation to women in elections.
The Mahil Congress meet came close on the heels of the government announcing its commitment to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill to provide 33 per cent quota for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza said India would be empowered only when women were empowered. Oza further added: “Rahul Gandhi is the one who showed us the direction to work.”
