Rahul expresses satisfaction over Vidarbha tour

Rahul Gandhi today expressed satisfaction over his tour of Vidarbha region, which has been hit by farmer suicides.

Nagpur: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today expressed satisfaction over his tour of Vidarbha region, which has been hit by farmer suicides.

"Yes, it was a good trip," he said following his day-long tour to the region in East Maharashtra yesterday.

During his visit to the cotton belt, Rahul met a number of farmers and their family members to know whether or not the benefits of the Prime Minister's financial package has reached them.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during a visit to the region in July 2006, had announced a Rs 3,750-crore package for distressed farmers.

The young Congress leader also visited Dorli village in Wardha district and Shivni in Amravati. The two villages had earlier hit the headlines as the residents had put boards declaring that their villages had been put for sale in view of the agrarian crisis.

Rahul was accompanied by Congress General Secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Margaret Alva and party student wing NSUI's leader Meenaxi Natarajan.
