R K Patil dies of old age

Veteran Gandhian and former Minister of erstwhile Central Provinces and Berar R K Patil died of old age this evening, family sources said.

NAGPUR: Veteran Gandhian and former Minister of erstwhile Central Provinces and Berar R K Patil died of old age this evening, family sources said.
He was 100. Patil received the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan award on May 15.
One of the signatories of the historical 'Nagpur Pact' through which Vidarbha region was merged with Maharashtra, Patil, was a member of Indian Civil Services (ICS).
He served as district collector in several places. Later he joined active politics in 1940's.
The centenarian refused Padmashree when the Centre tried to confer it on him. He was a recipient of Jamnalal Bajaj award for his outstanding contribution to the field of social services.
Patil served as the Minister for Revenue, Planning, Food and Civil Supplies in Central Province and Berar.
He also served as one of the members of first planning commission when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister.
