Qureshi takes oath as new Governor of Uttarakhand

Dr Aziz Qureshi today took oath as the new Governor of Uttarakhand, at a ceremony held at the Rajbhavan which was attended by CM Vijay Bahuguna.

DEHRADUN: Dr Aziz Qureshi today took oath as the new Governor of Uttarakhand.

Qureshi (72) was administered oath of office and secrecy by Chief Justice of Uttarakhand Barin Ghosh at a ceremony held at the Rajbhavan which was attended by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and his cabinet colleagues among others.

Four former Chief Ministers, including Congress veteran N D Tiwari, Nityanand Swami, B C Khanduri and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank were also present during the brief oath-taking ceremony, which lasted only a few minutes.

Qureshi, a former Madhya Pradesh minister, has taken the place of Margaret Alva, who was recently transferred to Rajasthan as its new Governor.

He is the fifth Governor of over the decade-old hill state.
