Punjab update: SAD-BJP combine takes early lead

The voting in Beas constituency of Amritsar district has been deferred to March 11 due to violence there.

CHANDIGARH: Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine on Tuesday took an early lead in the Punjab Assembly elections. The opposition alliance was leading in five seats while ruling Congress was ahead in two constituencies. SAD is leading in four seats while its ally BJP is ahead in one seat. Elections for the 117-member house were held on February 13. Counting is progressing in 116 Assembly seats and in Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency where bypoll was held. The voting in Beas constituency of Amritsar district has been deferred to March 11 due to violence there.
