Punjab has no water for giving to Haryana: Badal

Terming the centre's nod to Haryana on the convept report on Ravi-Beas Link Project, without taking the concent of Punjab was 'injustice' to the state, state CM said that Punjab has no water for Haryana.

JALANDHAR: Terming the centre's nod to Haryana on the convept report on Ravi-Beas Link Project, without taking the concent of Punjab Government was 'injustice' to the state, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that Punjab has no drop of water to allow its flow to the neighbouring state of Haryana.

"How can we allow extra flow of water to Haryana, when peasantry of the state is already facing acute shortage of water", Badal, who was here at function organization by Ram Navami Utsav Committee, told reporters.

Asked whether the state government would oppose the project, Badal said in positive and said rather the state demands scrap of earlier agreements on water sharing as well.

"Haryana always try to fetch water from Punjab on one pretext or other and the concept report on Ravi Beas Link project was new tactic on the same", he added.

A team of senior officials head by Suresh Kumar, Power Secretary had visited the site andfound that the sought project of Haryana would affect the Uppar Bari Doab Canal system apart from causing waterlogging in a vast area.

According to the concept report, under the second Ravi-Beas link project, about 10,000 cusecs water was to be diverted to Hari-Ke headworks from the Raviby linking both through a 80 km canal.
