Punjab govt to build biz convention centres
Punjab government has decided to build state-of-the-art business convention centres at an estimated cost of over Rs 500 crore in Amritsar and Ludhiana.
These centres would facilitate trade and commerce by allowing industrial community to hold global conferences, business meets, and seminar at large scale.
"We have decided to build two business convention centres in Ludhiana and Amritsar on the pattern of international convention centre built in Hyderabad. These would be world-class centres with an aim to provide impetus to the local industry in these districts," Punjab Tourism and Culture minister Hira Singh Gabria told reporters here on Monday.
“The department is already in the possession of two acres of land in Amritsar and another five acres of land has been sought from the district administration for convention centre. The government has also initiated surveys in Ludhiana for identifying land for the purpose of building convention centre,” he said.
The state government is also in the process of acquiring 150 acres of land for converting Sahnewal domestic airport in Ludhiana to international airport, which will be beneficial for both industry and agriculture sectors.
Gabria further said that the state government had also committed to allot 45 acres of land for the upgradation of international airport in Amritsar.
