Punjab govt makes first online payment to beneficiaries

Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa today said government payment amounting to Rs 3,218 crore was disbursed to more than seven lakh beneficiaries through online payment system for the first time.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa today said government payment amounting to Rs 3,218 crore was disbursed to more than seven lakh beneficiaries through online payment system for the first time.

He said Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) has been monitoring the system of online payments from its inception since April 1, 2013 and Punjab has become the country's first state to start this programme.

All government payments from April, 2013 were being deposited directly in the bank accounts of concerned departments and authorities, Dhindsa said, adding, more than 7 lakh people were directly benefitted from this scheme.

E-payment system was implemented in all government offices whose transactions were done through treasury offices, he added.
