Punjab Governor condoles Naina Devi stampede

CHANDIGARH : Punjab Governor S F Rodrigues on Monday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede at the Naina Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh.

Rodrigues, also the Administrator of Chandigarh, has asked the Punjab State Red Cross Society to liaise with its counterpart in Himachal Pradesh to make arrangements for reaching the bodies of victims hailing from Punjab to their native places, a statement said here.

The governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

As many as 146 pilgrims were killed, a majority of them women and children, in a stampede at the temple following rumours of a landslide yesterday.
