CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress today passed a resolution to express its solidarity with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has been summoned as an accused in a coal case.

AICC General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, who is in-charge of party affairs in Punjab, said Punjab Congress today unanimously passed a resolution to express solidarity with Manmohan Singh.

"Manmohan Singh ji is not only a respected figure in our own country but internationally as well he is well acclaimed. We are sure that he will come unscratched from the legal scrutiny," Ahmed said here.

The resolution was signed by CLP Leader Sunil Jakhar and Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa.

A special court had summoned the former PM along with industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary P C Parakh and three others as accused in a case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005 and asked them to appear before it on April 8.
