LUDHIANA: Punjab unit of BJP today accused Congress of playing "communal card" by exploiting the issue of Sikh farmers in Kutch area to create a rift between people.

"Congress still continues to play the communal card though they project development and good governance as its main election planks," state BJP president Kanwal Sharma said here.

Although Gujarat Chief Minister has made it clear that no Sikh farmer would be evicted or displaced from the state, the issue is being exploited by Congress, he said.

"The Congress considers the communal card as the gateway to political power," the BJP leader said.

By raising the issue, Congress wants to create a rift between the Sikhs and the Hindus, he said.
