Pune techie found dead, manhunt launched

PUNE: A day after software engineer Nayana Phatak-Pujari (28) was found brutally murdered and her badly mutilated body found in a forest area, the police are examining the CCTV footage of one of the four ATMs from where over Rs 40,000 was withdrawn using Nayana���s debit card.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Katraj and an employee of a software firm at Kharadi, was found brutally murdered at Rajgurunagar in Khed, about 50 km from here, on Friday. Her body was recovered with her head and face smashed.

The police prepared a sketch of the suspect on the basis of description given by the security guard of an ATM at Khadki on Saturday. The supect���s images were caught by the CCTV camera of the ATM, but he had covered his face while withdrawing money. Investigations have revealed that cash was withdrawn from four ATMs by one or more suspects.

The Yerawada police said there are no cameras in the other ATMs from where cash was withdrawn using the victim���s card. According to the police, Nayana informed her husband Abhijit Pujari at 7.58 pm on Thursday that she had missed the pick-up vehicle and that she would be reaching home within an hour in another vehicle. Nayana was strangulated with her own dupatta and her head and face were smashed with stones.
