Pune most livable followed by Navi Mumbai, Rampur in UP is the worst

According to the ranking of 111 major cities on livability index released by the urban affairs ministry, Pune, Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai are the most livable cities.

Pune has been ranked as the country’s most liveable city in a new ‘Ease of Living Index’ launched by the housing and urban affairs ministry. Pune, which emerged as the top performer among other sub-indices as well, is followed by Navi Mumbai, Greater Mumbai Tirupati and Chandigarh. None of the cities in big states such as Uttar Pradesh,Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have made it to the top 10.

The new index that assessed a total of 111 cities is based on four pillars of urban development (physical, institutional, social and economic) and uses 78 indicators across 15 categories (such as governance, education, health, safety and security, economy, affordable housing and transportation and mobility). Kolkata did not participate in the survey. Mid-size cities with population in the range of 1-4 million performed the best while smaller cities (with population less than 0.5 million) came out as under-performed on an aggregate basis.
