PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry government has sought Rs 14 crore as assistance from the Centre to restore the infrastructures which were damaged in the torrential rains in November and December last year at the Boat House in Chunnambar in neighbouring Nonankuppam village.

Welfare and Tourism Minister of Puducherry P Rajavelu told reporters here today that as the funds were yet to be available the government was on its part going ahead with repair and restoration works from out of its funds.

He said that the flow of tourist had dipped because of the rains by two percent although the Boat House had registered a flow of 14 lakh tourists during 2014-2015.

As part of promoting tourism the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation Limited had inked a MoU with the Chennai based Mantra House Boat Private Limited to get ready a House Boat at a cost of Rs 70 lakhs.

Tourists intending to use the House Boat would have the facilities with AC rooms,food and other amenities.

A conference hall would also be available in the House Boat kind of which had already been introduced by the firm in Alleppey in Kerala.
