Puducherry assembly adopts resolution on Cauvery water

Tabling the resolution Siva said that as per the verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, Karaikal was entitled to a proportionate allocation.

Puducherry assembly adopts resolution on Cauvery water
PUDUCHERRY: A private member's resolution urging Puducherry government to persuade Karnataka government to release 7 tmc water in Cauvery for Karaikal region as per the directives of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal was adopted as official resolution in the Assembly today.

The resolution was moved by DMK's R Siva.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy conceded the plea of the member that the resolution be treated as official resolution.

Tabling the resolution Siva said that as per the verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, Karaikal was entitled to a proportionate allocation of 7 tmc feet of water.

Siva said that the resolution should also persuade Karnataka government to release the share of 7 tmc feet of water for Karaikal.

He also said it had always been a question mark all along as to whether Karaikal was getting its quota in the river water.
