'Public should be made aware of welfare schemes'

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said all public service departments should launch awareness programmes about the various schemes launched by the Centre and state governments.

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said all public service departments should launch awareness programmes about the various schemes launched by the Centre and state governments.

"All public service departments while flagging of schemes for the benefit of general masses should launch awareness campaign about them simultaneously so that opeople get aware of their benefits," he said after inaugurating a six-day information campaign exhibition at Kishtwar on Tuesday.

Azad said various Centrally-sponsored schemes have been launched in the state in almost all sectors including health, education, social welfare, rural development, public health engineering, irrigation, agriculture, horticulture, etc to help the state achieve all round development and help provide basic amenities to the people.

Elaborating on the various schemes being implemented in the state, he said massive infrastructure development and power generation is under execution under the prime minister's Rs 25000 crore reconstruction plan. He said tourism is being promoted in Doda district to help generate new economic activities in these areas. Besides, creation of tourism development authorities, tourist circuits are also being created for the purpose.

In the backward districts of Doda, Kupwara and Poonch National Employment Generation Scheme has been launched to ensure 100 days wage employment in a year for the people in these districts and create important public infrastructure. He also stressed the need for making people aware about the right to information.
