Public Accounts Committee mulling whether hearings can be opened to media: KV Thomas
KOCHI: A sub-committee of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is studying whether the proceedings of the key panel should be opened for media to "ensure more transparency" in its functioning.

Speaking to reporters here, PAC Chairman KV Thomas said a meeting of the chairman of Public Accounts Committees of the Commonwealth countries had noted that the media has a crucial role in reporting the work of the PAC to the public.

In this context, a sub-committee of the panel headed by BJP member Nishikant Dubey is studying whether committee hearings should be opened to the media, he said.

Thomas said the sub-committee report is expected to be presented to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan during the budget session of Parliament for her consideration.
