Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said the directions have been given to all the district transport officers in the state in this regard.
Dealers will not issue temporary registration certificates while selling motor vehicles.
"The dealers will issue provisional registration certificate regarding that regular number which is issued to the buyer of vehicle through online system," he said.
Kohar said the temporary registration certificate will only be issued to the residents of other states who purchase vehicles from Punjab, and during sale of commercial/transport vehicles the concerned dealer will issue temporary registration certificate for the vehicle.
He further said the provisional certificate will be valid for 30 days only and the fee for it will be half the amount of regular registration certificate.
After issuance of the provisional certificate, details regarding the certificate will be sent through SMS to government-approved company Agros Impex for preparation of high-security registration plate of that vehicle.
Kohar said if any motor vehicle owner desires a fancy registration number then he will get his registration number allotted before purchasing the vehicle and he will present the authority letter of concerned DTO in order to get provisional registration certificate.
If any motor vehicle owner wants to affix his previous vehicles' registration number on his new vehicle then that person will first take permission regarding this from the concerned DTO office.
