Provide legal assistance to affected: Ghulam Nabi Azad

The controversy over Assam’s NRC final draft list rocked the Rajya Sabha with the Opposition expressing concern over the fate of 40 lakh people who do not figure in the list.

Opposition parties, barring BJD, said the issue would have impact on other states and alleged there was an attempt to politicise the issue. BJP chief Amit Shah’s response led to an uproar and Trinamool and Congress MPs trooped into the Well of the House and forced two adjournments.

Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said legal assistance should be provided to those affected and they should not be harassed.
