Protests continue in Visakhapatnam against Andhra Pradesh bifurcation

VISAKHAPATNAM: Protests against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh continued here today by various Joint Action Committees (JACs).

The road transport workers and employees also continued with their strike in the district as a mark of protest.

However banks, schools and some commercial establishments were working normally.

According to APSRTC sources, Visakhapatnam has incurred a loss of nearly Rs 20 crores, as all 1,063 buses in the district are confined to depots since August 13 as its workers and employees are on strike against the bifurcation of the state.

Meanwhile, the JAC of power employees, who have also been on strike, has decided to intensify its agitation and demand the UPA government to keep the state united.

JAC convenor P Srinivasa Rao said in a statement that the employees will observe work to rule from September 2 to 10 in power generation stations. They will go on an indefinite strike from September 12 in Seemandhra districts.

Besides, students JAC called for Vizianagaram bandh today to protest the alleged beating of students by Congressmen when students raised slogans against state Congress president yesterday.
