Protestors at Kudankulam nuclear plant refuse to talk to APJ Abdul Kalam

Protestors at the $2.6-billion Kudankulam nuclear plant on Sunday refused to talk to former President APJ Abdul Kalam

CHENNAI: Protestors at the $2.6-billion Kudankulam nuclear plant on Sunday refused to talk to former President APJ Abdul Kalam, who has been roped in by the government to resolve the standoff.

The protestors chose not to talk to Kalam because he has a “strong nuclear background,” SP Udayakumar, convener for People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy, said by phone.

Kalam was the architect of India's missile program and played a key role in the 1998 nuclear tests that prompted international sanctions against the country.
