Prosecutor wants Rs 100 crore recovered from Jaya’s estate
BENGALURU: The Karnataka government on Tuesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court disputing the abatement of charges against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, following her death , in the disproportionate assets case against her.

Special public prosecutor BV Acharya told ET: “The arguments on the case were concluded in July. The judgement has upheld the trial court order convicting her. Just because she is dead, it is wrong in law to abate charges against her.”

The senior lawyer said Jayalalithaa’s conviction should stand. “She may not be able to serve the four year jail sentence, but the `100 crore fine should be recovered from her estate” he said.
