Proposed Haryana SGPC intrusion into Sikhs affairs: Badal
Expressing his anguish over the Haryana government's move to form of a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in state, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday, termed it as an intrusion into the religious affairs of the Sik...
As per the Sikh Gurdwara Act, any matter related to the religion has to be resolved by the two-third majority of the SGPC. The proposed formation of SGPC was an intrusion into the religious affairs of the Sikhs, Badal told the media at Badla village, 20 km from here.
Haryana government had set up a one-man committee headed by its Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chadha in 2007, to find out the viability of setting up of a separate SGPC in the state. The Committee is scheduled to submit its report in the forthcoming budget session.
The Chief Minister recently met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and apprised the latter about hurting of sentiments of the Sikhs with the proposed formation of SGPC.
Sikhs were against the formation of a separate committee for them in Haryana, as they wanted All India Gurdwara Act, not separate Gurdwara committees in the country, he said.
Replying to a question regarding the proposal of electing him as NDA convener in place of George Fernandes, Badal said that he was not interested in the national level politics and would like to serve the people of his state.
