NEW DELHI: There is a proposal to establish colleges for students with hearing impairment in each of the five zones of the country, the Government informed the Lok Sabha today.

This was stated by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishanpal Gurjar in a reply to a question in the House.

The central 'Sector Scheme' for this purpose was launched on January 29 this year, he added.

As per the scheme, grants-in-aid are envisaged to be provided to existing colleges for expansion of infrastructure, purchase of aids/office equipment and reimbursement of the cost incurred by the college towards payment of salaries and allowances to the college faculty, staff and sign language interpreters.
