GUWAHATI: Assam’s industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary asked the Deputy Commissioners to identify and promote one product which has export potential through the ‘One District One Product Programme

Patowary chaired a meeting through video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners, along with General Managers of DICCs, District Transport Officers, Principals of ITIs, Assistant Directors of Employment and Craftsmen Training . The Minister discussed in detail issues pertaining to Industries & Commerce, Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship and Transport departments.

Addressing the DCs, the Minister said that service delivery should improve as government has a major role to play post COVID-19 scenario to improve the ecosystem, enhance economic growth, facilitate entrepreneurship and improve the source of livelihood of the people.


Minister Patowary asked the DCs to identify and promote one product which has export potentiality through the ‘One District One Product Programme’ and provide incentives to the local entrepreneurs of the micro food processing units in their respective districts.

Minister Patowary called upon the DCs to strengthen the enforcement drive in their districts and impose fines on the vehicles found violating laws. He instructed the DTOs to enhance revenue collection to meet up the loss following COVID-19 related lockdown.

Expressing concern at the rising cases of road fatalities in districts like Nagaon, Darrang, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) etc. Minister Patowary asked the DCs to convene meetings on road safety and take inputs from the crash investigation team after every accidents to take corrective measures. He asked them to identify vulnerable and black spots and engage volunteers called ‘Path Suraksha Mitra’ and train them so that they can play a crucial role in the ‘golden hour’ of any accident.

Commissioner and Secretary, Dr KK Dwivedi asked the DCs to organize job fairs to bring job-seekers of skill sector and job-providers of industry sector together in one platform. He further asked the DCs to fill all the seats in ITIs and told that no seat should remain vacant.
