Promises made in Reorganisation Act should be honoured: Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today stressed that the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act should be honoured even as his Tamil Nadu counterpart J Jayalalithaa expressed concern over tax benefits to AP and Telangana.

"Ultimately, some commitment has been made by the government of India... What we request (is that) what they have promised, they should honour. No more," Naidu said during a briefing at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia here.

In a letter to the prime minister dated August 24, which was released today, Jayalalithaa has "strongly" urged the Narendra Modi government to "adopt a cautious approach to the complex issue of providing area-based tax concessions in the name of encouraging economic development in these two states".

Earlier today, Naidu met Modi as part of a series of meetings with various Union ministers to discuss issues related to development projects in AP.

Elaborating on the roadmap for the development of AP, Naidu said they have set a vision to make the state the best in the country by 2029.

Stating that his government was eyeing investment in information technology, electronics and hardware, Naidu said he would be visiting Japan in November for the purpose.

"The future destination for Japanese industries is India ... In November, I am going to visit Japan. Before that we are doing some homework on how to mobilise investment. We are banking on countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Malaysia," he added.

Naidu also underlined that his government was committed to promoting tourism, which he said would open substantial jobs.

Meanwhile, asked about the RJD-JD(U)-Congress alliance stealing the bypoll show in Bihar, he said this contest was "not a clear reflection of the mood of the people".
