Bhattacharya said on the occasion that he was glad that three prominent personalities of Assam's cultural field have joined the party.

GUWAHATI: Three prominent Assamese film actors and singer today formally joined the BJP at the state headquarters here.

Assam's most popular male actor Jatin Bora along with actor-director Pabitra Margherita and singer Krishnamuni Chutia was welcomed to the party fold by BJP's state unit president Siddharth Bhattacharya at a function.

Bhattacharya said on the occasion that he was glad that three prominent personalities of Assam's cultural field have joined the party and "I welcome them whole-heartedly."

"We are striving to bring about a change in the existing scenario and hope that we together will bring about this change to build a peaceful and developed Assam," he said.

Bora, Margherita and Chutia said that they identified with the dreams and ideas of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wanted to work for the uplift of the poor and development of the state.

The BJP had made major inroads in the state winning seven of the the 14 Lok Sabha seats, a gain of three seats in the last polls and also wrested the Silchar Assembly seat from the Congress in the recent by-elections.
