Projection of women triggering crime against them : Shivanand Tiwari

PATNA: JD(U) national spokesman Shivanand Tiwari today blamed the market-driven culture of the present day for the increase in crime against women in the country.

"In the present age of market-driven westernisation, the projection of women in films and advertisements is contributing to the rise in crimes against them," Tiwari told reporters.

"The present generation is carrying such a wrong image of women. This is provoking rape and atrocities against women," he said adding 'provocative' dance numbers in films were also contributing to it.

"In old times apsaras (fairies) were sent to disturb meditation of saints. Likewise the item dances are polluting mind of younger generation," Tiwari told newsmen on the sidelines of a meeting of JD(U) MPs, MLAs and MLCs.

On a woman being gang-raped, murdered and her body hung from a tree in an orchard by unidentified persons in Bhagalpur on Saturday night after she got down from a Delhi-bound train, he said this was a problem of law and order and judiciary should deal with such cases expeditiously.
