Highlighting the need for more Lok Adalats, Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar today said more than three crore cases were pending before various courts in the country.

CHENNAI: Highlighting the need for more Lok Adalats, Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar today said more than three crore cases were pending before various courts in the country.

"The state is not lacking (in delivering justice), the judges are not lacking, but the problem is so huge. Over three crore cases are pending before various courts in the country," he said at the 11th All India Meet of State Legal Services Authorities here.

Stressing on the siginificance of organising more and more Lok Adalats, he said, "In 2011 alone, 41,35,411 cases were settled through Lok Adalats."

A total of 11,80,000 people have been provided with legal aid through 1,07,448 legal awareness camps, he said.
