Probe, don't brush aside complaints on EVMs: Congress to Election Commission

NEW DELHI: The Congress has said that the Election Commission has the duty to look into all aspects of complaints about functioning of EVMs and related demands in a detailed manner than brusquely brushing aside complaints when increasing number of political parties have raised issues regarding functioning of the Electronic Voting Machines and some of them have demanded reverting to paper ballots.

The AICC said it was the responsibility of the EC to restore public confidence in the functioning of EVMs by seriously looking into complaints of political parties and by taking credible remedial steps.

The AICC’s insistence that EC take a comprehensive view on the increasing complaints about EVMs came a day after the party delegation petitioned to the poll watchdog about a reported EVM malfunctioning in a Madhya Pradesh constituency where by-polls are being held.


The Congress is also keeping a close eye on many other parties — from AAP to RJD — publicly stating their suspicion about the accuracy of EVMs.

Many of these parties have been demanding EC strictly imposing a paper trail or reverting to the old system of using paper ballots.
