Probe against ex-Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar or face legal action: Scientist

NEW DELHI: A former scientist of ISRO, who was acquitted in an espionage case in the organisation, has demanded action against former Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar for "falsely" dragging him in the case and threatened to take legal action against Union Home Ministry if his demand is not met.

In a letter to the Union Home Secretary, S Nambi Narayanan, who retired from ISRO as a rocket scientist, claimed Sreekumar, who was then serving as Deputy Director in the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram, and was incharge of the probe into the espionage case, had allegedly falsely implicated him in it.

"The cases were later transferred to CBI. CBI further investigated the cases with the help of Interpol and found that these were false and fabricated cases against all the persons...

"CBI reported to the Home Ministry and Kerala government about the shoddy investigation done by IB officials and Kerala Police. CBI in its report also proposed stern departmental action against 'delinquent IB officials', which includes Sreekumar," the letter written by Narayanan said.

The former ISRO scientist claimed he was branded as a traitor, ill-treated, physically tortured during his six-day custody under the IB and Kerala Police.

Narayanan alleged he was the victim of the false case fabricated by Sreekumar and others in the IB but no action has been taken against the former police officer despite CBI reporting serious illegalities improprieties to the government of India.

Demanding a fresh probe against Sreekumar and other IB officials for their "shoddy" investigation in the ISRO espionage case, the former scientist told the Union Home Secretary that if action is not taken against the former police officers, he would be "compelled to take suitable legal recourse against the Home Ministry".
