Priyanka Gandhi meets family of deceased farmer in UP

Lucknow: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday hit out at attempts to characterise the protest against the three central farm laws as a “political conspiracy” and to label the participants as “terrorists”.

Her comments came when she met the family members of Navreet Singh, the Australia-returned youth from UP's Rampur who was killed during the tractor rally organised by protesting farmers in Delhi on January 26 when his tractor overturned. She participated in a prayer meet organised for the youth and later addressed the community of Dibdiba village, saying Singh’s “martyrdom” would not go in vain.

“The three farm laws that should be rolled back are a crime against the farmers, but the bigger crime is calling martyrs terrorists and viewing farmers” protests as political conspiracy against them,” said Gandhi Vadra. “I know from personal experience that the family of a martyr can never forget his martyrdom. It keeps it in its heart forever and all it wishes is to make sure that its loved one’s sacrifice did not go in vain.”
