Priyanka Gandhi may not go to campaign against Narendra Modi in Varanasi after all.

With Modi slated to address a mega meeting in Amethi where he is supposed to launch a final attack against the Gandhis in their own backyard, speculation was rife that Priyanka may pay back in kind by moving her campaign team to Varanasi.

According to sources close to Priyanka, she said Congress candidate in Varanasi, Ajay Rai, had requested her presence in Varanasi.

Priyanka reportedly said she would restrict her role to managing Sonia and Rahul's campaigns in Rae Bareli and Amethi. Rahul Gandhi has been asking her to join politics for two years but she said she will do so when she feels like it. She said, the fight in Amethi is not against Smriti Irani or Kumar Vishwas but with internal challenges here. It was unfair to compare Amethi of today with the Amethi during Rajiv Gandhi's period because both State and Centre governments then were of the Congress party, she said.

She also said it was unfair to compare her interactions with people with those of Rahul because he was into national politics while she restricted herself to local issues here.
