Priyanka Gandhi promises legal help to arrested anti-CAA protestors

NEW DELHI: Congress in-charge of UP Priyanka Gandhi on Monday held a meeting with lawyers in order to offer legal help to those who have been arrested during protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the state. She also asked the legal cell of the state Congress to visit the families of those arrested and offer any help they need.

During the three-day Lucknow trip, Priyanka met several families of those who have been arrested by the UP police. On Saturday, she dodged the police to meet the families of retired IPS officer and activist SR Darapuri in Lucknow. Darapuri had been arrested during anti-CAA protests. On Monday, she met the family members of Congress leader Sadaf Zafar who has also been arrested by the police.

A state Congress delegation met state governor Anandiben Patel on Monday and submitted a memorandum demanding a full judicial inquiry into "unlawful conduct" of the UP police during the course of public demonstrations against the CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
