LONDON: Princess Diana was a staunch believer in astrology and used to consult a fortune teller whom she called "Fergie's witch woman" as she strived for personal growth, the inquest into her death heard.

Diana's former private secretary Patrick Jephson told the 11 member jury at the inquest that the Princess of Wales' interest in astrology continued to feed her "paranoia" that lurked beneath the surface.

"She liked to heed astrologers predictions. The more dire, the better where the Prince was concerned and she was rewarded with regular forecasts such as skiing accidents and helicopter crashes and other calamities that refused to befall him," siad Jephson .

According to him, some of the predictions included Prince Charles not making it to the British throne, instead Prince Andrew becoming the King, her brake lines being cut and her telephone conversations being constantly monitored by the British secret service.

However, the former Royal Navy officer said that he did not take the predictions seriously and even humoured some of the more far-fetched ideas absolutely in a "lighthearted, jocular manner".

He also claimed at the inquest that Diana felt like a "lamb to the slaughter" the day she entered the Royal Family. "There were times when she felt isolated," he told the jury.
