Prime Minister to arrive in Goa on Thursday

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to arrive in Goa on Thursday on a two-day visit to attend several programmes.

PANAJI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will arrive in Goa on Thursday on a two-day visit to attend several programmes.

During his visit, Dr Singh will inaugurate the first phase of the Goa Broadband Network project.

The project will links the capital city with the two district and eleven taluk headquarters as part of promoting e-governance and a transparency in administration.

It envisages provision of services to the government such as IP telephony, online transaction portal, online education, healthcare, online booking and video conferencing.

It also provides BPO, call centres, KPO and PCOs services besides promoting e-learning and class room education, diagnosis and advice from hospitals and preventive health care from doctors, leave alone video-on demand and broadcast TV apart from broadband connectivity.

The Prime Minister will also attend the annual convocation ceremony of the Goa University on Friday. He will present D Lit to renowned playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and eminent scientist Anil Kakodkar.
