DHAKA: Three activists of radical Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh have been arrested for putting up posters in a university against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The three HuT activists, all students, were nabbed while sticking posters against Modi's visit at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University yesterday, police said.

The arrested were identified as Ishtiaque Hossain, 25, a student of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, 24-year-old Ahsan Ali Mia, who studies at Government Commerce College and Abdul Zawad, 22, who gave HSC examination this year, bdnews24.com reported.

"They were pasting posters against the Indian Prime Minister's visit and the state. Students nabbed them and informed police," Khulshi Police Station Inspector (investigations) Sukanta Chakraborty said.

Police also recovered several "anti-state" posters from them.

Modi today arrived here on his maiden visit which is expected to put ties with Bangladesh in a new trajectory, as the two sides will firm up a number of pacts to boost cooperation besides ratifying the long-pending Land Boundary Agreement.
