BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today discussed research on traditional Indian medicine and "Make in India" initiative with young scientists at the Institute for Stem Cell Research at the National Centre for Biological Sciences here.

Modi took a round of the Stem Cell Laboratory where scientists explained the research being conducted there.

Interacting with young scientists, Modi also talked about the progress being made towards finding a cure for sickle cell anaemia using gene therapy and wildlife conservation through gene banks, an official release said.

The Prime Minister asked the scientists to interact with school children and motivate them to build careers in this field, it said.

The National Centre for Biological Sciences is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research with the mandate of carrying fundamental research in the frontier areas of biology.

Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda and Ananth Kumar were also present, it said.
