LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Uttar Pradesh a second time this month, when he launches his gover nments flagship Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMSKY) from Mahoba on October 24. With the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh now staring ahead, Modi's visit to the state have increased.

He had earlier attended the Dushehra Mela celebrations in Lucknow on October 11, a rare departure from the tradition followed by past PM's including Modi, who attended the Delhi Ram Lila.

The irrigation scheme would be launched from Mahoba, which is at the heart of Bundelkhand, which has for years been plagued by drought. The backward region of Bundelkhand has in the past also been in news for farmers suicide after defaulting on loans and farm distress due to prolonged droughts.

Modi's Mahoba visit would also be important as the PM has not visited the Bundelkhand region this year.

A public rally has also been organised after the launch of the irrigation scheme and BJP's state general secretary Swatantra Dev Singh, has been entrusted a key role for it. BJP's prominent OBC face, Singh also hails from the Mahoba region.
