Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails Indian athletes in 43rd Mann ki Baat

The performance was special as a lot of things happened for the first time. For instance, every Indian wrestler won medal in the Commonwealth games, the Prime Minister said.

Addressing the nation in the 43rd edition of Mann ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Indian athletes for their phenomenal performance in the Commonwealth Games as India won 66 medals.

The performance was special as a lot of things happened for the first time, he said adding that for instance, every Indian wrestler won a medal in the Commonwealth games.

Indian women athletes won the highest medals this time, the prime minister said.


The prime minister asked people to prepare for the International Yoga Day celebrated world over on June 21.

The prime minister urged the Indian youth to work as interns for the Indian government's Swacch Bharat internship. He said that exceptional interns will be rewarded by the UGC by giving them two credit points and the Indian government will award them Swacch Bharat certificates.

On water conservation, the prime minister cited examples of temples of Tamil Nadu which have served as models for saving water. He spoke about the rejuvenation of rivers and water conservation efforts through MGNREGA scheme of the government.

He recalled the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore in the world of literature. Ahead of the start of the Ramazan, he recalled the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ahead of the start of Ramazan.
