Prime accused in Budaun rape-murder case arrested

Four teams had been deployed to search for the accused, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. Narayan was found hiding in the house of one of his followers, according to PTI. The two other accused had been arrested soon after the incident.

Lucknow: The temple priest who is the main accused in the alleged gangrape and murder of a 50-year old in a Budaun district was arrested late Thursday night after being spotted by a group of villagers. Mahant Satya Narayan, who was evading the law since Sunday, when the incident had taken place, was found hiding in the village of the crime itself.

Four teams had been deployed to search for the accused, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. Narayan was found hiding in the house of one of his followers, according to PTI. The two other accused had been arrested soon after the incident.

The district administration of Budaun ordered a magisterial probe into how the post-mortem report of the victim got leaked. According to a section of the local media, the post-mortem report revealed such horrific details as the use of a rod-like object against the victim in a similar way as was used in the Nirbhaya incident. ET, however, could not verify this independently. The chief medical officer of Budaun had said there were tears and injuries in the private parts of the victim.


The district magistrate of Budaun, Kumar Prashant, told ANI that the law and order situation in the village was under control and that the victim's family was receiving all possible assistance from the government. He said the main accused will be charge-sheeted soon and the case will be tried in a fast-track court.

The 50-year old aanganwadi worker was allegedly gangraped and murdered on Sunday by the priest of the temple she had gone to pray at, and his two accomplices.
