Price rise a result of UPA's faulty policies: JD(U)
The Janata Dal (United) today said the unprecedented price rise was a result of the "wrong" development policies being pursued by the UPA government.
"The wrong policies being pursued by the Union government in the name of development have led to price rise exposing the common people to immense hardship," JD(U) president Sharad Yadav told reporters here.
Yadav said setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in agricultural lands and allowing big industrial groups to invest in retail sector have showed government's "utter neglect" to farmers and small traders.
He criticised intellectuals and media for "not playing their roles earnestly" for strengthening democracy.
"Electronic media has been reduced to entertainment media and has failed to live up to its responsibility of mobilising and awakening the society," he said.
Yadav termed both the Union and Uttar Pradesh governments as "insensitive" towards the plight of the people of Bundelkhand.
He was also critical of the UP government's Ganga Expressway project saying it would have an adverse impact on the river.
On the Gujjar agitation, he said both the Union and Rajasthan governments should work together to find an amicable solution.
