Hike in price of milk has led the SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities here to stop its free supply to patients.

CUTTACK: Hike in price of milk has led the SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities here to stop its free supply to patients.

The hospital authorities have stopped providing free milk to the patients for last five days as the Orissa Milk Federation (Omfed) has hiked its price from Rs 17 to Rs 20 a litre from June 1.

"We have an agreement with Omfed to provide milk to the hospital at a concessional rate. We even pay the money in advance. But all of a sudden, Omfed hiked its price by Rs three per litre on June 1 and stopped supply," said hospital superintendent Prof D N Moharana.

The hospital requires at least 600 litres of milk every day to provide half-a-litre of milk to each patient daily.

Moharana as milk was not available patients were bein given fruits and biscuits instead.
