NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were among the first to cast their votes in the Presidential election on Thursday.

Singh flashed a victory sign to reporters after casting his vote at Parliament House but did not speak to them.

Polling began this morning to choose a successor to President A P J Abdul Kalam, climaxing a month-long bitter campaign.

The polling began at 10 am in the Parliament House as well as the capitals of states and union territories amidst tight security and strict vigil by the Election Commission, which issued a series of stringent instructions to voters.
