Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that our pilgrimages, temples and places of faith are indelible marks of our civilization's journey over thousands of years.

"Unfortunately, those who ruled the country could not understand the importance of these places of faith, they were embarrassed about our own culture and heritage. The BJP government has turned development and heritage, history, culture and traditions together," Modi said.

The PM, who was on a two-day tour to Assam, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 11,000 crore in Guwahati. The key focus areas in Guwahati include projects to boost sports & medical infrastructure and connectivity.

Modi also mentioned that Ayodhya has witnessed more than 24 lakh people in the past 12 days after the Pran Pratishtha (consecration ceremony) of the Ram Temple.
