Presidential elections: Sangma hopeful of repeating 1969 polls result

P. A Sangam is hoping to repeat 1969 presidential polls where congress backed candidate Nilam Sanjeeva Reddy was defeated by V.V. Giri.

Guwahati: Presidential post aspirant, P. A Sangam is hoping to repeat 1969 presidential polls where congress backed candidate Nilam Sanjeeva Reddy was defeated by V.V. Giri.

Sangma was in Guwahati on Sunday. He held meeting with leaders of different poltical parties. He said, “See I am appealing to the conscience of the Electoral College. You vote your choice, Pranab Mukerjee is not a congress candidate but he is independent candidate. Similarly I am a independent candidate,”

He said that, “ There is no need to be afraid as the elections will held in secret ballot. I am articulating the aspirations of peoples of Northeast, tribal and Christians of the country. “ I am coming from Bhubneswar and a group of christens leaders told me that they are observing Sunday as a day of fasting and prayers for me.”
