Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar informed that current President Ram Nath Kovind's tenure will end on July 24 this year.
The voting process will take place in Parliament where a total of 4,809 electors will cast their votes, including 776 MPs and 4,033 MLAs.
The Rajya Sabha Secretary-General will serve as the returning officer for the presidential polls.
According to the schedule published by the Election Commission (EC), notification for the President election will be issued on June 15 with June 29 being the last date to file nominations.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 30 and the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers will be July 2.
The final polling, if needed, will take place on July 18 and with results being declared on July 21.
Considering the surging numbers of Covid-19 cases in the country, the EC has decided to follow all Covid related protocols during the election process.
“Election Commission fully geared to conduct elections for the post of President of India in a free and fair way,” said CEC Rajiv Kumar.
