Presidential Election 2022: TRS leaders to attend Yashwant Sinha's nomination programme

Telangana Rashtra Samithi's working president and Minister KT Rama Rao will be attending the nomination programme of the Opposition's presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha today.

The last date for filing nominations is June 29, and the elections will be held on July 18. Key Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Pawar and Mamata Banerjee, are expected to accompany Sinha.

Along with Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (also known as KCR), and some of the TRS MPs would also attend the programme. Earlier, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had decided to support Opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha for the upcoming poll.


Though KCR did not physically participate in the Opposition parties meet on deciding their common candidate for the presidential elections, the Telangana's ruling party decided to support Sinha's candidature.

The former bureaucrat was declared presidential candidate by opposition parties last week. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, and former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi had declined to be presidential nominees of opposition parties.
