President Ram Nath Kovind condoles death of Manipur's former CM Rishang Keishing

NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind today condoled the demise of former Manipur Chief Minister and a member of the first Lok Sabha Rishang Keishing.

The veteran Congress leader passed away in Imphal yesterday due to multiple organ failure.He was 96.

"Condolences on demise of ex-CM of Manipur Shri Rishang Keishing. A veteran political leader & member of first Lok Sabha," he tweeted.




Keishing, a Naga, had served as the chief minister of Manipur four times - from 1980 to 1988 and from 1994 to 1997.

Keishing, who hailed from Bungpa village in Ukhrul district, was elected to the Lok Sabha in the first Parliamentary elections held in 1952.

He had also represented Manipur in Rajya Sabha till 2014.
